At the end of the CCCKC General Meeting on March 11th, 2011 the KC Fabricators posed for a photo to complete the first MakerBot User Group Challenge. In attendance from left to right was Charles Huber (recipient of the 2010 Mini Maker Faire Acrylic Cupcake giveaway), Craig Berscheidt, Jestin Stoffel, Luis Rodriguez, Michael Overstreet, Tim Middleton, Rob Giseburt, and Leland Snidt. Paul Guinto’s bot was present but he was not able to make it. Michael Curry was absent and so was his bot, sitting lonely at home not enjoying the limelight…for once. That is 13 if your keeping count and can make out the two acrylic bots side be side. Printers range from many Cupcakes, one Thing-o-matic, one UP!, one Mendel, and one MENDEL XL. Come see what were working on like casting Clonedels and building custom CNC machines like the Mantis. Last month we got our CCCKC CNC operational! ! If your interested in personal fabrication we generally meet every Thursday at 7pm at the cave.
After a successful Mini Maker Faire last year, the powers that be have been hard at work organizing a full-blown Maker Faire for the Kansas City area. It’s going to be at Union Station in downtown Kansas City June 24-25, 2011.
The call for makers went out today also so get signed up! If you’re a sculptor, a musician, a glass blower, a creative welder, a hacker, a circuit bender, a 3D printer operator, a robot builder, a quilter, a gardener, a photographer, a graphic artist… anything, if you made it, sign up and bring it. Oh, your project/art/mad-robot doesn’t have to work or be finished, it just has to be there! If you’re working on it while people are watching that makes it all the more engaging and attainable.
CCCKC will have a large representation from a wide variety of ‘disciplines’ so if your interested in the space come out and chat with us.
The title says it all. CCCKC now has an operational, home built, Joe’s CNC (2006 Model). The below video is the maiden cut.
At our Thursday meeting this week our resident CNC guru, Craig B., gave a primer for members and guests alike. That overview video can be viewed here (50 mins). Members will have to be trained and certified before being allowed to operate the machine. Stay tuned for information about future training opportunities.
We’ll be building the kits on Saturday February 19th Starting @ ~2:00 PM.
Only 20 kits are available so make sure you’ve contacted atomicc@ccckc.org to reserve yours. Kits are $4. If you have a soldering iron you can bring please do, we only have a limited number in the space.
