Mission to Arch Reactor

A caravan of CCCKC members visited Arch Reactor, St. Louise’s hackerspace, for their grand opening.  The delegation presented Arch Reactor with a gift:  A custom front plate for their makerbot featuring the St. Louis Arch.  The group enjoyed a tour of the space, complete with a gumstix-powered DIY photobooth, and robotic knife-fighting!

The space, housed inside of an old brewery, has it’s share of hazards:  It nearly sent the delegation to that big LAN party in the sky when the hose from a propane tank caught on fire.  Luckily the fire was put out and no one was hurt.  Delegation members enjoyed their visit and said they look forward to working with Arch Reactor in the future.

Crisis Camp KC Meeting

Crisis Camp KC @ CCCKCCrisis Camp KC, a local meeting of Crisis Commons dedicated to hacking the Haiti earthquake relief effort, held a meeting at the CCCKC cave on Saturday.  Volunteers including some CCCKC members helped to geo-tag maps of Haiti and contribute to a myriad of other projects.

The CCCKC space is available for area groups to use.  Please contact us for details at exec at cowtowncomputercongress dot org.

Robot Proposal Submitted

A proposal for the Willow Garage’s PR2 Beta robotics program was submitted last week.  If CCCKC’s proposal is selected, our space will gain a sophisticated open robotics platform for use!  The proposal explores using the robot for tele-presence and tele-research at the workplace.  The results of the proposal selection process will be revealed at the end of April.
